At The Avon Valley School, we want all our young people to understand that not all communities in the world, or even in our locality, have their basic requirements met and that many struggle to meet the key needs of water, food and shelter. Within our own locality there is also real hardship and each year we reach out to local charities to support vulnerable people within our own community.

Staying true to AVS Core Values

Our school’s core values – Ambition, Respect and Care – are at the forefront of our charity work here at Avon Valley School.  Over the past couple of years, we have supported charities such as Mind, Children in Need, Comic Relief and local charities.

Staying with the theme of local charities, this year, our school charity is the Our Jay Foundation.  Our aim is to raise enough funds to provide our local community with a 24 hour accessible defibrillator.

Our wellbeing council feeds into the work that we do in school. Each December, we launch an initiative for the gift of giving month.  This year, we are completing a ‘5K for Our Jay’ where students can collect donations for running, walking, swimming or cycling 5km.

Continued support and success in fundraising

The success of our fundraising has been developed by the installation of our Year 11 events captain, which has become an important role within our student leadership structure.

Annually, we support the charity events below on top of our chosen charity of the year:

  • Christmas shoe box appeal
  • Children in Need day
  • Royal British Legion
  • Comic Relief
